My love for typewriters ...

Mint Typewriter - Basic Pillow ~ Sharon Dawn Collection

www.sharondawn.com

I have a lovely mint blue typewriter which I inherited from my Mother & Father. This beautiful Italian typewriter was cherished in my family. All of the kids would type on it and jamming the keys. The charming clickety clack as you type and the anticipated ding at the end of the page. The black and red ribbon would always become tangled and take a while to figure out while making your hands inky. When I was in Junior High I would type romanticized poetry about France, as I would daydream on how it would be strolling the streets with a camera in hand. This charming typewriter brings back many memories and connects to an era back in the day when they were considered next level technology and to a time when we were not so digitally connected. Some of my most rewarding moments have been at vendor markets when children would ask me what kind of computer or printer this is. They would always be amazed that it was something you would simply type on so it was not handwritten text. You will see my sentimental adoration for typewriters expressed in some of my photography, art & designs.
One day I was looking for subject matter to paint other than my recent go to of unplanned and spontaneous abstract expressionism. I painted a minimalist version of my favorite typewriter. Later on I designed this pillow featuring this quick study in paint. The image captures the bumpy painted canvas and the flat matte colors. The shade of color is more blue than mint in this painting featured, but it is in the range of all the mint to blue shades that I love. I enjoyed the simplicity of the image capturing the shape of it rather than the infinitesimal details.

Other than this wonderful mint blue typewriter, you will see designs inspired by other typewriters in my collection. Here I have made a puzzle for those cold days by the window sipping tea and listening to your fav sounds whether it be a bit of Dave Brubeck, Tim Henson or the sound of a cat purring right next to you.

Do you need tote some things around on your daily stroll? Here is a fun one with a dash of turquoise.

This weekender tote bag features a closeup of my charcoal grey typewriter keys. I never tire of seeing the unique qualities that each typewriter has. This particular typewriter has smooth bright white keys and a textured grey top cover and body.

Here I designed a pair of flip flops which are smart & cool for the beach, poolside, backyard or cruising around in the summer heat.

This typewriter is a bright beauty with a complimentary purple background. A fun statement piece for those moments when you are on the go and need to tote around some books or your daily essentials to meet your pals for a latte.
